Public Programs Assistant

Part time; hourly position
Department: Education
Reports to: Public Programs Coordinator

DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibility of the public programs assistant is to host and oversee many of the museum’s weekend programs, including the Saturday Songwriter Session, Sunday instrument demonstration, monthly family program, and monthly film screening. This position is also responsible for overseeing any museum volunteers assigned to assist with the program.

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have strong communication skills; experience with stage management and front-of-house management; comfort with public speaking; knowledge of museum operations and the Nashville area and its music history. Candidates must exemplify an eagerness to interact with the public and the ability to work well in a fast-pace environment. Part-time, hourly, Saturdays and Sundays.

Schedule:

The public programs assistant will support the following educational programs:

Saturday Songwriter Session – Offered every Saturday at noon in the museum’s Ford Theater (213 seats), the Songwriter Session features an established country music songwriter(s) in a 45-minute performance for museum visitors. The program is interactive as visitors are encouraged to ask the songwriter questions about the industry. Songwriter Sessions are included with museum admission or free to museum members.

Sunday Instrument Demonstration – Offered every Sunday at 1:00p.m in the museum’s SunTrust Community Room (capacity 50 seats), instrumental demonstrations feature studio, touring, and other instrumentalists in a 60-minute performance-demonstration for museum visitors. Instrument demonstrations are included with museum admission or free to museum members.

Family programs – Offered once per month, the family programs range from hands-on workshops to concerts. The musical petting zoo activity is offered at least four-times per year. Family programs are typically the last Saturday of the month from 1:00p.m to 2:30p.m. Admission price varies.

Film screenings – Offered at least once per month, the film series is an opportunity for museum visitors to view vintage country music footage from our Frist Library and Archive. Films are often connected to our featured exhibits, and are usually screened on the last Sunday of the month at 2:00p.m. Film screenings are always free.

Visitor Services Representative

RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIREMENTS: Customer service is crucial! Communications, public speaking, and organizational skills are a must. An open, friendly attitude and pro-active sales skills are also essential. Prior customer service and cash-handling experience is required. Versatility is key as the ideal candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Knowledge of the Nashville area and its music history is a plus. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work a flexible schedule.

Bus Driver

Part Time; Hourly Pay (2 positions available)
Department: Visitor Services
Reports to: Visitor Services Manager

DESCRIPTION: The Visitor Services bus drivers will be responsible for safely transporting museum guests to and from Historic RCA Studio B in Nashville during normal business hours. Drivers will be responsible for the daily preparation of the bus, including cleaning, filling with gas, and monitoring maintenance issues. Additionally responsible for special t transportation needs as scheduled, and transporting bus for service needs.

Closed Tuesdays in January and February

REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have a valid CDL driver's license Class C with P endorsements, along with a minimum of 2 years experience operating a commercial vehicle. Must be reliable, and committed to being on time. An open, friendly attitude and pro-active work ethic are essential. Should work well and make decisions under fast-paced environment. Must be willing to take a drug test and complete a successful background check.

Internship Program

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is a 501c3, nonprofit organization and offers unpaid internships to advance the educational goals of the student as well as the overall mission of the museum. Internships are offered in the areas of marketing, event planning, event sales and service, communications, education and archival service. The following internship positions are currently available. The schedule and number of hours are developed according to the student’s class schedule. Marketing/Communications Intern

Junior, senior or graduate level student seeking a quality professional experience in communications and/or marketing. We offer a creative, energetic environment in which a student is exposed to the areas of advertising development, promotions, media relations/purchasing and other forms of marketing. Duties include general assistance to members of the Communications Department, but especially the Director; follow up with media and sponsorship partners; marketing database entry; creation of reports and correspondence; participation in Communications and Marketing Department meetings; some writing and proofreading; and other projects related to marketing promotions. We look for students who are able to work independently and possess good organizational, computer, and written and oral communications skills.

Tourism Sales and Marketing Intern

Junior, senior or graduate level student seeking a quality professional experience in sales and marketing. We offer a unique, energetic environment in which a student will have plenty of concrete work. Duties include administrative assistance to the marketing and tourism sales teams; including database management; compiling reports and presenting results; client research; creation of e-blasts; assisting with sales follow-ups and participation in departmental meetings. We look for students who have outstanding writing and verbal communication skills, proper phone etiquette, are able to work independently, and possess basic computer skills with Word and Excel. The ideal candidate will have in interest in the tourism or hospitality industry.

Public Programs Intern

The intern assists the Public Programs Coordinator in the planning and execution of educational events for the general public. The intern will work closely with the Public Programs Coordinator on all aspects of the Museum's public programs. This includes researching exhibit themes, brainstorming program ideas, booking participants, maintaining a programming database, completing required paperwork and maintaining program files. The intern will also assist in the management of special events and other activities of the education department including giving student tours and administrative and clerical duties. The ideal candidate should have an interest in education, music and event planning/booking. Knowledge of country music is helpful.

School Programs Intern

The intern assists the School Programs Coordinator in daily activities and educational program development for the upcoming summer and school year. Daily responsibilities include communicating with teachers, ensuring that teachers have the necessary pre-visit materials, conducting student tours and assisting with mailings and school program material preparation. Program development responsibilities include assisting in the coordination of teacher advisory groups and the creation of lesson kits for classroom use. The benefits of this position are gaining direct experience with developing and implementing educational programs for students and teachers in the areas of music and music history. Candidates should enjoy working with children, and have a strong interest in education, music history and educational program development.

Development Department Intern

The Development Intern will assist the Development Department in the following ways: Supervision of Annual Report preparation; creation, management and execution of special events; grants research, writing and preparation; prospect research, evaluation and cultivation; special projects including donor stewardship and VIP tours; and assist in daily development office activities including database support.

Candidates with experience/interest in public relations, communications, marketing and event management preferred. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. PowerPoint and Excel expertise encouraged, but not required.

Museum Services/Oral History Project Intern

Duties would consist of entering edits (that have already been made on printed interview transcripts) into the Microsoft Word versions of the transcripts, editing transcripts and transcribing interviews from cassette tapes.

Rising seniors or graduate students are preferred. Major in history or English preferred. Excellent writing and editing skills are desirable. Careful attention to detail and the ability to see tasks through to completion are essential.

Library Intern

The potential intern will be directly involved in activities including but not limited to the following: assisting in cataloging print materials or nonprint materials, preparing vertical file items for scanning, or assisting with building or weeding collection.  The ideal candidate has library experience or coursework in LC cataloging.  Intern gains experience in cataloging and other library-related duties.

Events Department Intern

The Events Department Intern has the following duties: Assist with servicing of events before, during and after Museum hours; attend weekly Events Meetings to learn the skills needed to communicate the execution of events to other departments in the building; shadow sales manager and service manager during client site visits to learn skills used in selling our space and services; assist in compiling weekly event reports; help with administrative and clerical duties for Events Department.

The ideal candidate is an outgoing, motivated individual who is always looking to learn and take the initiative in completing tasks; a service-oriented person with a willingness to help others. Knowledge of Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook is preferred. Some hours will be before or after regular 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Museum hours.

Moving Image Collection Intern

The intern assumes the following duties: partial viewing of collection for DB cataloging and indexing and to make media detail determination; create title labels for unlabeled items; create and attach accession numbers to collection items and add accession numbers to DB; shelving items; possible re-orientation on shelving of collection once accession numbers are added; add previously existing created indexes to the database. The ideal candidate has knowledge of or interest in country music (all genres), its history and personalities, and knowledge of or interest in learning about videotape machine operation.
